Some resorts accept credit cards, but it is best to have enough cash with you to cover your expenses while at the island. There is an ATM in Marang and at Kuala Terengganu Airport. There are daily flights operated by Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur International Aiport (KLIA & LCCT) to Kuala Terengganu. From here you take a public bus or taxi to the small coastal town of Marang (travel time around 30 minutes). Expect to pay only a few ringgits by bus and around RM30 by taxi. At Marang Jetty the boat to Kapas departs daily from 7am to around 5pm. A return ticket with a fast boat costs RM25.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Kapas Island is on June till September. Due to monsoon season, most resort will be closed during November till February.
Direction by speedboat
Marang jetty is the only jetty connect the mainland with Kapas Island. Hence, traveller can take a speedboat from the jetty for about 15 to 20 minutes of journey.
Direction by Car
From Kuala Lumpur, take the east bound highway to Kuantan and headed to highway 3 in the direction to Kuala Terengganu (follow the signboard). Marang is about 30-45 minutes after Dungun.
If you come from Singapore, take the North-South Highway and exit at Yong Peng. Then, headed to Labis and Segamat and use highway 12 to Kuantan and use the coastal highway 3 to Marang in direction Kuala Terengganu.
There is car park located in front of the jetty with charge MYR10* per day without roof.
Direction by bus
Public transport in Malaysia work really well. From Kuala Lumpur, buses depart from Bandar Tasik Selatan to Kuala Terengganu. You have to ask the driver to be dropped off at Marang. Ticket can be purchase around MYR44*.
If you come from Singapore, you have to take Transnational buses at Lavender St bus station and ask to be dropped off at Marang. Ticket price is around SGD48*
Direction by air
There is no airport on Kapas island. Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia fly directly to Kuala Terengganu from Kuala Lumpur International Airport twice daily for about 45 minutes of journey. Meanwhile, Malindo Air and Firefly depart from Subang Airport. If you are from Singapore, you can only fly with Malaysia Airline. Then, you have to take public transport to the jetty after arrive in Kuala Terengganu.
