The historical name for the region between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River is Palestine. The land was first inhabited since 9000 BC. The Hebrews which is the ancestors of today’s Jews has settled in Palestine in 1900 BC and had formed the kingdom of Israel, ruled by King David, by 1000 BC. Palestine was then taken over by a series of foreign powers. In the seventh century AD, the Arabs took control of the area during the Islamic expansion. The modern day Palestine nowadays came from these Arabs when they came in the seventh century. The population of Palestine is 4.5 million including the 2 million of them live in Israel and the occupied territories. 75% of them are Muslims, about 17 percent of Palestinians are Christian, and some 8 percent are Druze. Both Christians and Muslims have holy sites in Palestine that are visited by pilgrims from around the world. The food is same as other Middle eastern country and most of them are having Falafel which is deep-fried chickpea balls or patties. Other than that, they also eat Hummus which is ground chickpeas with garlic, lemon juice.
